Sagip Bukas (Save the future) a Movement for a Drug Free Las Piñas
Addiction to prohibited drugs has destroyed numerous lives – not only of the user but also that of his or her family. The Villar Foundation recognized early on that education is a key to preventing the spread of this threat. In 1994, a school-based anti-drug abuse campaign was launched.
Dubbed as Sagip Bukas (Save the Future), the program primarily addresses the students in the 5th and 6th grades and in high school, as well as their parents and teachers. More than just providing information on the perils of drug abuse, discussions are held on the important role of the family and community in preventing and fighting this menace. To make the program inclusive and get the out-of-school youth involved, peer interaction and support group programs are simultaneously conducted. Since its inception, Sagip Bukas has reached an audience of over 80,000.
In 1994, the City of Las Piñas earned a special award jointly given by the Office of the President and the Department of Interior and Local Government for its well-rounded approach to the drug abuse problem through the Sagip Bukas Program.
